Baranard excited by Connelly partnership

Striker Lee Barnard is excited about Southampton`s attacking options this season and is delighted with the way in which he and David Connelly have linked up in pre-season. Barnard, a January signing from Southend, found the net in Saturday`s 4-2 friendly defeat to Reading as he and Connelly formed an impressive partnership up front with Rickie Lambert out injured. It remains to be seen who will become Alan Pardew`s first-choice pair but Barnard is hopeful he, Connelly and Lambert can fire Saints to promotion. "Conners is very, very clever and intelligent so he`s easy to work with, he always makes options for you and I can only learn off him," the forward told the club`s official website. "We`re working well together, we haven`t really played that much together before that so now we`re getting games as a partnership it`s starting to work well. With Lambo and Conners at the club we`ve got some good strikers here which can only benefit us." He added: "It`s a big season for everyone, especially myself. I want to play well. I put that pressure on myself to play well and score, but I`m feeling ready so hopefully I can score goals."
