Adkins eyes title

The Saints climbed to fifth in English football's third tier and within five points of current table-toppers Brighton following the impressive 4-1 home win over Huddersfield on Tuesday.

Adkins, who took the managerial reins at St Mary's in August, told the Southern Daily Echo: "When we (himself and assistant Andy Crosby) joined the football club we were 22nd in the division and we are fifth now so it's good progress at this time.

"We're not into the January window and the mad speculation of transfer activity, inflated prices, expectations and great banter and debate about who should join and who should go.

"It's an interesting period of time but our intention is to win the division, it's as simple of that."
