Strachan said after the game: Strachan added: "I think we did enough to win the game and I'm happy with the way we played.
"Sure, we have things to learn such as getting on the end of Fabrice Fernandes' crosses but we'll do that and we'll get more goals from midfield. But it has been a decent day. We've nothing to reproach ourselves for."

The sentiment was echoed by Middlesbrough boss Steve McLaren. He said: " Southampton put us under a lot of pressure at times. It is always hard coming here. At this stage of the season everybody is bedding in their team and it is satisfactory to come away with a point.
"We improved a lot in the second half and that was most encouraging."
