Ginger Reaction - West Brom

Strachan knows he can't really criticise his players for a pretty solid performance but must find some way to motivate them towards achieving better things. "I saw the shot and thought it wasn't a problem so I turned away to talk about substitutions," said Strachan on Paul Jones' error.

"The next thing I heard all the crowd cheering. They tell me it wasn't a classic."

Hopefully he will give Marians the chance to work on his finishing in the next game as he was by far our most threatening player. On Pahars, Strachan said: "He missed two fantastic chances and it's surprising really because Marian is usually very good at them."

"He scored against Everton and has been doing it in training but it didn't happen today. At least he was there to get the chance.

"I've not got a problem with my players' attitude but we just couldn't produce the final pass.

"I wish I could tell you I had something up my sleeve to solve the problem but I haven't."

Strachan's comment is a little worrying. If we need to create more chances then we have to play Anders Svensson as a more attacking midfielder. We compensate defensively through Oakley and Marsden as they have excellent defensive qualities.

Gary Megson puts the victory down to his prematch preparation, or rather lack of. "I could see the way we were going about our preparations wasn't quite right," said Megson.

"We were looking lethargic and I could see that kind of performance coming. We only got back from West Ham at 2am on Thursday morning and today was always a potential banana skin."
