"To still believe in what we were doing after going a goal down to the champions was absolutely first class." said Gordon.
"We did not deserve to be behind because it was their first strike on target. I told the players at half-time just how good they were. I told them they could create a little piece of history if they kept up that performance.
"James Beattie could have scored four goals. His presence was fantastic. Last week when we played Newcastle Alan Shearer was the difference between them and us but here it was James who kept us going. Well done, James."
Strachan went on to tell the official website : "I thought it was an injustice for us to be 1-0 down. That was the first strike on target and it was their only strike on target in the first half.
"So to come back and believe after that, and keep playing the way we set out to play, that's some going. Sometimes you can go 1-0 down and you have doubts about the way you want to play and but there were no doubts there at all.
"At half-time I told them how good they were, how I was pleased with the way they were doing it, and how they were focused on doing their job and sticking to our plan.
"If you want to create history, you have to do it yourself in life. We created a wee bit of history with that performance. It says something about themselves, not anybody else.
"When the players look back they will think 'I enjoyed that game, I loved that game, I was a good player that day.' It might be a point where good players become very good players and change their careers.
"If you want to be a great player, you have to play against the great sides. It's a stepping stone for players.
"We want to get higher than where we are. We are now ninth, so I want to get to eighth. If you take away the three injury-time goals we have lost, that's five more points more we would have.
"That would make an excellent season so far. That's why we got a wee bit nervous near the end. We have conceded a few late ones so it can only be expected that we get a bit nervous. I don't think anybody would disagree that we deserved to win.
"To still believe in what we're doing and to play against the champions like that is first class. It proves that I've got a good side here who just need a wee bit more belief. It's coming through every game."
