So why move my On The Cross site, a huge Saints resource which I was quite happy pottering away with, to a more corporate approach full of stats and interactivity ?
Simple, time and content.
The football Mad network provides me with the opportunity to focus on one of the main reasons On The Cross was there in the first place: to provide the most comprehensive coverage of Saints past and present on the net.
Updating On The Cross, especially on a large scale has become enormously time consuming. What was once a really enjoyable part of having the site has become an enormous chore.
The time it takes to do all of this detracts from one of the main reasons the site was there - content. The more I have to work on tweaking code, the fewer player profiles I can do. This is no longer an issue.
So, Over the next few months, you will see a huge number of additions to this site. Some will be On The Cross favourites, while others will be new pages I simply wouldn't have had time to do otherwise.
The Football Mad team also have loads of ideas to provide you with the best football content possible and I've been very impressed with their approach.
So it's the best of all worlds: Footy Mad get fan based resources in addition to all of their current features, I get time to really get on with the content and you get to enjoy the results.
You can't get better than that !
